On 20th July 2021 there was a huge hailstorm in Thaxted where I live, quite terrifying and destructive materially to trees, gardens, houses. Aside from it being yet another buck from planet earth (is anyone listening?), I was so struck (!) by the experience that I collected some of the 5cm hailstones to use for water in the underpainting. 40x50cm, oil and mixed media on panel.
